Art opening this weekend

and some pictures to zap out of reality for a minute

Hi all!

It’s been a while since I’ve sent anything out. Every time I sit down to write, I write and write and write and write and then I think, ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the country and the world, the country and the world, the country and the world, sob, sob, sob.

I know I’m probably feeling how everyone is feeling right now-How do I shamelessly self-promote when the country and the world?!

Just do it.

Hey so, I had 3 paintings accepted into the show Captivating Colors at Art for the People. The opening is this Saturday, June 14th. (Yes, I know, the same night as the No Kings march in Austin (5-8 at the Capital.)) So, if you’re feeling like yelling in the streets and then going to an art gallery where there will be no threat of violence then please join!

I really do not think that promoting art and encouraging viewership of art is silly right now, even though I have been stopping myself. I think it is very important for fostering community, and to allow ourselves time to check out of reality.

So instead of me blabbing on about my hot take on the state of the world, here are images for you to space out on.

Wanting to get back into painting, I did some cardboard paintings focusing on the basics.

Thinking about how much addiction affects families.

I went through a phase last month of embracing my inner 15 year old skateboarding boy who instead of having negative self talk, would only say “sick bro.” These Sharpie drawings are a result of that.

I recently read my journal from when I was in the Netherlands for a semester in 1998. There was a photocopy of my since stolen passport. I look as happy as I was.

“Today on the train I realized that I have 100 voices in my head, all of them are mean.” from said journal.

I have been scared to draw on wood, but I got some Sharpie paint pens and overcame my fear! As a person with a scar on her forehead, I like using the scars in the wood.
